You Have a Scheduled Meeting

Jummah Mubarak, sis! There’s great power in prayer. We have the blessing of recharging through it at least five times a day, something unique to our faith. These prayer times are beautifully aligned with the sun’s position in the sky, dividing our day into distinct moments to connect with our Creator. No matter how busy life gets, we pause to remember Allah (SWT) throughout the day, taking time to meet with the Most High.

Surah Al-Anbya | 21:33

“And He is the One Who created the day and the night, the sun and the moon—each travelling in an orbit. ”

The word "فَلَک" (falak) refers to a circle or anything round, and is sometimes used to describe the sky. In this context, it refers to the orbits of the sun and moon in which they move. The sun is constantly in motion, much like our lives—waking, living, and repeating in a continuous cycle.

The sun’s position in the sky shifts throughout the year due to the tilt of the Earth’s axis, and this also affects the times when we meet with our Creator. During longer days, our prayer times are spread out more, while in seasons with shorter daylight, the intervals between prayers decrease.

Allah (SWT) knows best why we meet with Him at different times throughout the seasons, but it mirrors life, doesn’t it? In some seasons, we are more active during the day, while in others, we may be less so. Similarly, there are moments in life when we need to connect with Him more often. Whether life brings more ease or greater challenges, the one constant is Allah (SWT) and our ongoing conversation with Him. How we show up at different times of the year is real, but Allah (SWT) already knows and understands us perfectly.

The Sun’s Orbit

Each day, the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars seem to rise in the east and set in the west. In reality, these celestial bodies aren't moving that quickly—it's the Earth that's rotating. The Earth spins on its axis from west to east, completing one full rotation in about 24 hours.

Since we are on the Earth's surface, we move with it. This makes it appear as though everything in the sky is moving from east to west.
